Mystery brews in Atlanta: Someone stole a lot of beer
ATLANTA
A mystery is brewing in Atlanta, where someone stole an ocean of beer.
A brewery in the city says nearly 3,300 cases of beer went missing when two of its trailers were stolen.
SweetWater Brewing Co. said the trailers had been loaded for a morning pickup when they were taken from the plant north of downtown.
Company spokeswoman Tucker Berta Sarkisian said the two trailers carried 3,272 cases altogether – or more than 78,500 bottles – of SweetWater’s Summer Variety Pack.
She said both trailers were located later in the Atlanta area by using GPS, but both were empty.
The company is asking retailers to contact them if someone other than the company attempts to sell the beer, which has expiration dates of Sept. 20 or 21.
Gator captured on Georgia beach killed
TYBEE ISLAND, Ga.
The trapper who captured an alligator seen swimming in the Atlantic Ocean a few yards off a Georgia beach says the reptile has been killed and its head will be mounted.
Authorities temporarily closed beaches on Tybee Island for several hours as they recently watched the 7-foot gator just offshore. They said it was highly unusual for an alligator to cause alarm at the beach, since they’re typically found in fresh water such as ponds, lakes, rivers and swamps.
The gator eventually was reeled onto the beach by trapper Jack Douglas and his crew.
Douglas tells The Savannah Morning News that the gator was harvested for its meat and hide, and its head will be mounted. He said releasing such a large gator elsewhere could be dangerous for someone else, so it was euthanized.
X-ray machine foils attempt to sneak iguana into courthouse
BOULDER, Colo.
The Boulder County Justice Center allows service animals into the building, but security guards drew the line when someone tried to sneak his pet iguana through the X-ray machine.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Carrie Haverfield tells The Daily Camera that security staff caught the reptile as it passed through the machine. The pet’s owner was turned away and waited outside for his friends to come out of the courthouse.
The sheriff’s department tweeted an X-ray image of the iguana, or at least its skeletal outline, inside a bag.
Haverfield says people have tried to sneak dogs, cats and mice into the building.
