Anti-frackers will submit petitions this afternoon
YOUNGSTOWN — The Community Bill of Rights Committee will submit petitions this afternoon to get an anti-fracking charter amendment in front of Youngstown voters for a sixth time.
The group will have a press conference outside city hall at 1:30 p.m. and then submit the petitions to the city clerk.
The ballot language calls for a ban on all shale development including fracking, injection wells and other shale infrastructure in the city limits, according to members of the committee.
Similar proposals were rejected twice in both 2013 and 2014 as well as in November 2015.
If this proposal gets the needed signatures, it would be on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.
