$4M fed grant aimed at job training
YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning Valley organization offering training for jobs in advanced manufacturing and healthcare was awarded a $4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor today.
White House officials, including Vice President Joe Biden, made the announcement during a conference call about 39 partnerships receiving $150 million in grants from the department’s TechHire program for innovative training and placement models to develop tech talent as a way to keep and create jobs in local economies.
The Mahoning Valley Partnership for Employment will equip people, particularly focusing on veterans and those with criminal records, with the skills needed for “high-demand” jobs in advanced manufacturing and healthcare.
Lead by Flying HIGH Inc., located in downtown Youngstown, in partnership with corrections facilities, faith-based organizations, and work-release efforts, the program will develop intensive coaching, career pathways and customized training for participants, according to a White House statement.
