Devin Ryan and A.C. Zawadzki combined to limit Creekside Fitness to two runs as Ohio Thunder stopped the defending tournament champions, 4-2 in an elimination game Saturday at the Bob Cene Memorial Tournament at Cene Park.

”It was a gutsy effort by us as we were shorthanded this morning and are low on pitching at this point in the tournament,” Creekside manager Bob “Bubba” Boughner said. “We made a few mistakes, gave up some free passes and they made us pay for those mistakes. They hit and we didn’t get the timely hit when we needed it.”

Creekside plated the game’s initial tally when Bryce Richey scored on Pad O’Shaughnessy’s infield grounder.

Ohio Thunder knotted the game at a run apiece in the fourth inning when A.C. Zawadzki led off with a single. Zawadzki later scored on a two-out safety by Isaiah Norman.

Caleb Homan roped a two-run double to left field to start the fifth-inning rally.

After adding a run in the seventh inning for a 4-1 margin, Creekside’s Antonio Viviano scored on Noah Suarez’s single to cut the led to 4-2 but couldn’t score another run with the bases loaded.

Richey had three hits for Creekside and scored their only run of the game.

Baird Brothers will face Western Pa. Slurve in the semifinals while Astro Falcons face Roth Brothers. Both games are at 10 a.m. with the championship at 12:30 p.m. at Bob Cene park.
