Ladybird Book spoofs coming to U.S this fall

NEW YORK

The Ladybird Books for Grown-Ups, spoofs of traditional illustrated guides for children that have sold millions of copies in the United Kingdom, will be tweaked for American readers and arrive in the U.S. this fall.

Touchstone will launch the Fireside series on Oct. 11 with four books, including “The Fireside Grown-Up Guide to the Hangover” and “The Fireside Grown-Up Guide to the Husband.” Fireside was an old self-help imprint for Touchstone’s parent company, Simon & Schuster.

In Britain, Ladybird is a century-old publisher that introduced millions of kids to subjects ranging from space travel to the heroics of Lord Nelson. The adult guides use the same soothing language for hipsters, dating and mid-life crisis.
