POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

June 19

Assault: Police responded to a fight at a U.S. Route 422 gas station, where two men, including one who said he had been twice punched in the face, each reported being assaulted by the other.

Criminal damaging: A Hazel Avenue woman alleged her son had intentionally damaged her lawn mower.

June 20

Drugs: A charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments was pending against a Girard man after authorities had detained two people on bicycles on Beechwood Avenue. A syringe with drug residue was found, a report showed.

Menacing: The owner of a Trumbull Avenue store reported a man had threatened on Facebook to shoot him and left other posts claiming drugs were being sold at the business.

Possibly stolen property: While assisting Liberty Township police with a search warrant in the 1000 block of Patricia Drive, officers reported having found a $915, two-inch water valve with its serial number filed off.

June 21

Arrest: Police responded to a minor vehicular accident near Church Hill Road before citing 43-year-old Ann M. McManus of Pleasant Valley Road, Niles, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired and on a seat-belt violation.

Menacing: A Dearborn Street woman said a former neighbor made a hand gesture, simulating pointing a gun at her.

Theft: Two landscaping lights were removed from a yard in the 400 block of Reeds Court.

Theft/criminal mischief: A woman noticed damage to a 53-inch TV as well as various kitchen and household items as she returned to her East Liberty Street apartment. She also reported a cellphone was missing.

Harassment: A Dearborn Street woman alleged an acquaintance had sent inappropriate photographs of her to several other people.

LIBERTY

June 17

Theft: A Youngstown woman reported her $80 cellphone stolen while at a Goldie Road big-box store.

Theft: An employee with a Belmont Avenue restaurant reported a $600 iPhone missing while at work.

June 18

Burglary/auto theft: Someone entered a garage in the 400 block of Catherine Street and stole a 2002 Buick vehicle.

Arrest: Youngstown police exchanged custody of 31-year-old Shalla Y. Furquan-Howell with Liberty authorities. Furquan-Howell, of Upland Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a fourth-degree felony charge of deception to obtain a dangerous drug.

Child endangerment: After officers received a complaint that three children were alone in a car at a Goldie Road store, 30-year-old David E. Jones of Idlewood Drive, Youngstown, faced a misdemeanor endangering-children charge. Jones was in the business while the youngsters, age 2, 3 and 8, were left unattended, a report showed.

Theft/criminal damaging: A Murray Hill Drive man discovered someone had broken into his three vehicles, including a truck that had its dashboard removed and from which a compact-disc/stereo system was taken.

June 19

Arrest: While answering a noise complaint at an East Liberty Street motel, authorities took into custody Saquan Baldwin, 25, of Fruit Street, Farrell, Pa., on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Auto theft: A 2011 Chevrolet Cruze was stolen in the 500 block of East Liberty Street.

Menacing/criminal mischief: Three people in the 1400 block of Country Club Drive noticed someone had let the air out of some of their vehicles’ tires. Also, one of the victims said her former boyfriend had sent her a threatening text message.

Assault: A Hadley Road woman alleged a 37-year-old township man had grabbed her son, 12, by the throat and placed him in a choke hold, then dragged the boy out the door when he went to the man’s residence in an effort to borrow a friend’s bicycle.

Drugs: Police responded to a suspicious vehicle in a high-crime area in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive, where they charged Jacqueline R. Adams, 30, of Hayes Street, McDonald, with one felony count of cocaine possession, and 44-year-old Richard L. Palmer II of North Gate Drive, Liberty, with possession of drug paraphernalia. Two suspected crack-cocaine pipes and a bag of suspected crack cocaine were found, authorities alleged.

June 20

Recovered property: An officer in the 500 block of Gypsy Lane reported finding a 2007 Chrysler minivan that had been stolen in Mercer County, Pa.

Identity theft: An Elmwood Avenue man discovered two unauthorized charges to his bank card that originated in Lewis Center, Ohio, and totaled $781.59.

Breaking and entering: Police responded to suspicious activity near Shiloh Full Gospel Church, 1310 Shannon Road, before charging 32-year-old Michael J. Lowery of Tibbetts-Wick Road, Girard, and 33-year-old Michele Rafferty of Patricia Drive, Girard, with breaking and entering. An officer discovered the church’s front door was ajar and that a kitchen area had been ransacked; in addition, a further investigation revealed a safe had been broken into, a report showed. Lowery also was charged with aggravated menacing when, authorities said, he threatened to harm an officer.

June 21

Arrest: Authorities on Gypsy Lane took custody of Daniel P. Hartman of Stoneboro, Pa., who was wanted on a felony parole-violation charge from that state. Police found assorted jewelry the 30-year-old Hartman admitted having stolen in Pennsylvania, they alleged.

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue relinquished custody of 42-year-old Joseph L. Austin to township authorities. Austin, of Dogwood Lane, Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant accusing him of failing to comply with a court order regarding receiving-stolen-property and drug-abuse charges.

Criminal damaging: A woman reported $300 in damage to a glass storm door at her residence in the 600 block of Mansell Drive.

Arrest: Officers responding to a report of several juveniles in the road in the 200 block of East Montrose Street charged a 17-year-old Youngstown boy with obstructing official business. The teen provided a phony first name, a report said.

Attempted theft: A Townsend Avenue man noticed his window-mounted air-conditioning units had been tampered with, possibly when someone tried to steal them.

June 22

Theft: A man reported $2,000 missing from an envelope at his Wildfern Drive home.

HUBBARD

June 19

Theft: A driver with a Hubbard taxi company told police that after having given a 37-year-old man a ride from Warren to his West Liberty Street apartment, he failed to pay $165 in cab fare and other fees.

Child endangering: Officers received a complaint that a 2-year-old child had been in the middle of Hager Street clad in only a diaper. The toddler was returned unharmed to his parents, who received a verbal warning.

June 20

Identity fraud: A Jackson Street woman found out someone without authorization had obtained her Social Security number and opened several accounts, including one with Kohl’s, racking up more than $700 worth of fraudulent charges in the Toledo area.

June 21

Summonses: Two summonses and a minor-misdemeanor citation were to have been issued to a 50-year-old Stewart Avenue man after an officer examining the property reported having found two rusted tire rims, a child’s toy car with weeds protruding through it, a microwave oven next to the garage and other outdoor junk, all in violation of a city ordinance.

Trespassing: Police issued a criminal-trespassing warning to a Hubbard man, 58, after employees with a West Liberty Street gas station reported he had been making inappropriate comments to them.
