A number of local junior golfers took part in a Northern Ohio Junior Golf Series event at Brookside Golf Club.
Top area finisher was Canfield’s Madison Murphy who tied for first in the girls 11-12 division by shooting a nine-hole round of 47.
Poland’s Rocco Turner finished fifth in the boys 11-12 division with a nine-hole round of 55.
Lisbon’s Samantha Tinsley finished sixth in the girls 16-19 division, shooting a round of 86.
Lisbon’s Qunitin Carr placed 13th in the boys 16-19 division, shooting a round of 80.
Baylor and Briles mutually part ways

Baylor and Art Briles have mutually agreed to part ways, the move coming almost a month after the release of a scathing report over the university’s handling of sexual assault complaints against players and the coach being suspended by school regents “with intent to terminate.”
A statement released by the university Friday night said the termination was effective immediately.
According to the statement, both the university and Briles “acknowledge that there were serious shortcomings in the response to reports of sexual violence by some student-athletes, including deficiencies in University processes and the delegation of disciplinary responsibilities with the football program.”
Baylor, a private school, didn’t provide any financial details for the settling of Briles’ contract which was for eight more seasons.
Howard gets nod for USA vs. Colombia

United States head soccer coach Jurgen Klinsman announced Tim Howard would start in goal for their third-place match against Columbia tonight against Colombia in the Copa America Centenario.
Howard was goalkeeper for the US during the 2010 and 2014 World Cups but announced he would take a break from international soccer in Aug. 2014.
Brad Guzan has been the primary goalkeeper since. The 31-year-old recorded two shutouts in five Copa America matches. However, his last match was a 4-0 defeat to Argentina in the semifinals.
Buckeyes land top offensive line prospect

Ohio State landed the top ranked offensive guard and the 14th overall prospect when Wyatt Davis announced his decision to put on the scarlet and gray.
Davis is listed at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 310 pounds. The five-star prospect had multiple scholarship offers including Alabama and UCLA.
Davis is entering his senior year of high school this fall.
Newgarden cleared to race at Road America

IndyCar has cleared Josef Newgarden to race at Road America on Sunday, two weeks after breaking his right collarbone in a scary crash at Texas.
Newgarden got the medical clearance after being evaluated following each of two practice sessions on Friday at the rural Wisconsin track.
He got hurt on June 12 at Texas after his car slammed on its side and slid along the frontstretch wall with the top of the cockpit exposed.
Tavaris Jackson arrested after dispute
kissimmee, fla.
Free-agent quarterback Tavaris Jackson was arrested after a domestic dispute where he allegedly pulled a gun on his wife.
Details within a police report said Jackson was intoxicated and pointed a loaded gun at his wife. Children were at the home at the time but in their beds during the incident.
Jackson has played nine seasons in the NFL. His first five being with the Minnesota Vikings and the last four were with the Seattle Seahawks.
Jackson has been Russell Wilson’s backup for the past three years but is currently without a contract.
