DUI charge

LIBERTY

A Warren woman faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, after police reported finding her passed out behind the wheel of a car near an Oriel Rodgers Road residence about 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said Miranda Samples, 20, failed a series of field-sobriety tests and smelled of alcohol. She declined to take a blood-alcohol content test.

Officers reported finding 17 prescription pills and empty cans of beer in the car. She is charged with possession of drugs and possession of alcohol while underage. Police also cited her for expired license plates. She will be arraigned Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court.

3 injured in crash

MECCA

Three people were injured in a head-on crash between a pickup and minivan on state Route 88 in the township.

The crash occurred at 3 p.m. Thursday when Paul Bazilius, 70, of North Bloomfield, was trying to turn his eastbound pickup left onto Hoagland-Blackstub Road and drove into the path of a westbound minivan driven by Sandy Copeland, 63, of Mecca. Copeland and her daughter, Destiney Copeland, 23, of Mecca, a passenger in the minivan, suffered serious injuries, said Trooper Dan Morrison of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren Post.

Copeland and her daughter were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment. Bazilius, treated at St. Joseph Warren Hospital for less-serious injuries, was charged with failure to yield while turning left and failure to wear a seat belt, Morrison said.
