Idiom Day was the icing on the cake

Canfield Village Middle School fifth-grade students celebrated Idiom Day on May 20.

Idiom Day served as a culminating activity as the students finished up studying figurative language in their Language Arts classes.

Each student was assigned an idiom by their teacher, such as “knee jerk reaction” and “let sleeping dogs lie, and it was the student’s responsibility to determine the meaning of the idiom by researching the phrase. Students were required to use the idiom in a sentence to show they clearly knew the meaning.

Finally, students were asked to figure out a creative way to dress up as their idiom and present it to the class, reciting their sentences and giving hints as to the meaning of the idiom so the other students could have fun guessing the phrase.
