Three free concerts by military bands are scheduled at Maag Amphitheater at Boardman Park this summer.
The first will be June 30, at 7 p.m., with the 122nd Ohio Army National Guard Band.
On July 2, the Wright Brass Air Force Band of Flight will perform at 7 p.m. Wright Brass consists of a standard brass quintet with a percussionist.
In celebration of Independence Day, the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus will perform on July 5 at 8:15 p.m., with fireworks to follow around 9:45 p.m. Rain location for this concert only will be the Boardman High School Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave.
Food concessions will be sold at all concerts, and visitors should bring lawn chairs or blankets.
Winery to host bluegrass festival
CORTLAND
Greene Eagle Winery and The Bluegrass Kitchen will present the first “Stomping with the Settlers Bluegrass Festival” at noon July 2 at Greene Eagle Winery, 2576 Davis Peck Road.
There will be live performances on two separate stages; dozens of food, beverage and artisan vendors; a raffle; and a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
Musicians include headliner David Mayfield and the Bluegrass Parade, Backroom Boys, Bruckner and Campbell, East and West, Lost Bob and the Ozone Ramblers, Morning Star, Spyder Stompers, Stumpy Basin Volunteers and Rogues of Rafferty.

Hands-On History at Tyler center

Hands-On History open houses begin Wednesday, July 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.
Each week will feature a different local history theme, ranging from science and industry to arts and culture, with activities to spark interest and creativity.
The program runs every Wednesday through Aug. 10.
There is no cost to participate in the activities.
Museum tours will be offered during the open houses at half-price admission.
Attendees will keep track of the programs they attend and can win prizes for attending.
The first week kicks off with Native American Exploration.
Other topics will include Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, Christmas in July, The First Ohioans, Youngstown Loves to Eat and the Magic of Music & Movies.

Violinist to play at St. John’s Church
YOUNGSTOWN
Elias David Moncado, a 15-year-old violinist from Germany, will give a concert at 7 p.m. July 13 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave.
Moncado is being introduced to American audiences as part of an exchange between Platin Scala of Wenden, Germany, and the New Castle Eintracht Maennerchor.
In September, the Maennerchor will be hosted in Germany by Platin Scala and the Kirchenchor of Meggen, taking part in Platin Scala’s 25th Anniversary Jubilee as well as other concerts.
The Youngstown concert by Moncado is co-sponsored by WYSU 88.5 FM.
He will also be performing in Pittsburgh and Sharon, Pa.

Kent-Trumbull homecoming event
WARREN
On Sept. 23, Kent State University at Trumbull will host “Rendezvous in the Alley” to kick off the inaugural Warren Homecoming.
The event will be in the afternoon at David Grohl Alley, downtown.
“Good things are happening in Warren, Trumbull County and on our campus,” said Dr. Lance Grahn, dean, Kent State University at Trumbull. “It’s an honor for us to be at the front end of this inaugural weekend as we welcome our friends, family and former residents.”
“Rendezvous in the Alley” details are in the planning stages.
Warren Homecoming, which will be at various locations Sept. 23-26, is being organized by the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County.
