Authorities seek help in solving 1989 slaying of Ohio girl
CLEVELAND (AP) — Authorities investigating the 1989 slaying of a 10-year-old girl from suburban Cleveland are asking for the public’s help in identifying what they say could be a key piece of evidence in the case.
Law-enforcement officials had a news conference today to ask if anyone could identify a handmade curtain they believe was used to wrap up Amy Mihaljevic’s body. She was found in an Ashland County field 60 miles southwest of Cleveland in February 1990, about four months after she was reported missing from her Bay Village home.
A retired FBI agent says testing has shown that hairs found on the curtain and a blanket found in the field appear to match a sample taken from the Mihaljevic family’s dog in the early days of the investigation.
