YOUNGSTOWN

The Aug. 27 concert by Lionel Richie at Covelli Centre is sold out.

Tickets for the show – billed as the inaugural Southwoods Health’s Concert for the Valley – ranged from $65 to $150 and went on sale May 20. Covelli’s capacity for the concert is about 6,000.

The concert will be the Grammy Award winner’s only scheduled U.S. appearance this year outside of Las Vegas, where he is in residence at a venue.

“We have been working on this concert for quite some time, and it will be another historic night for downtown Youngstown,” said Eric Ryan, executive director of the Covelli. “The only thing better than a sold-out Lionel Richie concert is the knowledge that Youngstown will be the only North American date besides his Vegas residency.”

Southwoods’ Concert for the Valley was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Surgical Hospital at Southwoods. Ed Muransky, president and CEO of the Muransky Companies and Southwoods Health, sees the concert as giving back to the community.

As part of the anniversary celebration, Chris and Ed Muransky and the Muransky Companies will contribute to the Youngstown State University Foundation dedicated to health-care initiatives, and to the United Way of Youngstown andthe Mahoning Valley for children’s programs.

Plans are in place to continue and expand the Southwoods Concert for the Valley in future years to benefit the greater Youngstown area. Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel has been working with Ryan and Muransky to bring concerts to Stambaugh Stadium.
