City council on Monday approved a contract for the construction of a new waterline at Clingan Street.

The board of control will enter into a contract not to exceed $89,885 with Foust Construction of Girard.

Service Director Daniel Livingston said the new line will connect with existing lines to improve water quality for the Clingan Street neighborhood.

Additionally, council authorized a $70,400 contract with D&G Mechanical Inc. of West Middlesex, Pa., to replace a rooftop heating and cooling unit at city hall. First Ward Councilman Benjamin Kyle said the replacement of failed units will result in greater efficiency and cost-savings.

In other business, council amended 2016 budget appropriations for the parks and recreation department from $24,050 to $28,050. City Auditor Michael Villano said the need for the change resulted from a clerical error in an earlier version of the budget.

The city will advertise for bids for 2016 street resurfacing. Officials have not yet determined which streets the city will pave this year. The cost estimate is $184,000.

Council is considering adding a November ballot measure that would allow residents to vote to extend terms of office for city council members from two years to four. A resolution to send the measure to the Trumbull County Board of Elections will come up for final passage at the next regular meeting.
