Doubledays tame Scrappers’ bats

One night after scoring 14 runs, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers found their bats silenced on Monday at Falcon Park.

The Scrappers offense was limited to four hits in a 7-1 loss to the Auburn Doubledays.

The Scrappers lone run coming on a Jodd Carter home run.

The Scrappers were forced to play from behind right away after Blake Perkins doubled and scored on Ryan Ripken’s sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

The Doubledays added two runs in the third inning with a little help from the Scrappers. Auburn drew three walks, including a bases-loaded walk by Oliver Ortiz. Two Scrappers errors contributed to Auburn’s 3-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, the Doubledays batted around and added four runs. Clayton Brandt’s two-run single was the big blow.

Ortiz and Angelo LaBruna also had RBI singles.

Luis Jimenez (0-1) started and took the loss for Mahoning Valley. Jimenez worked three innings allowing three runs (one earned) on just one hit. He walked four and struck out four.

Winning pitcher Yonathan Ramirez (1-0) worked five innings of three-hit baseball. Ramirez did not walk a batter and struck out five.

The Scrappers (1-3) and Doubledays (3-1) will finish their three game series tonight.
