Sobriety checkpoints result in arrests
The Mahoning County OVI Task Force and Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted two sobriety checkpoints over the weekend resulting in two OVI arrests. The first checkpoint was at 4121 South Ave., Boardman, from 10 p.m. Friday to 12 a.m. Saturday. The second checkpoint was at 118 N. Canfield Niles Road, Austintown from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday.
There were 420 vehicles that passed through the checkpoints with 23 vehicles directed into the diversion area for further investigation.
Officers also conducted saturation patrols in support of the checkpoints and conducted 71 traffic stops.
In addition to the two OVI arrests, the checkpoints and patrols also issued nine summonses for driving under suspension, one summons for driving without a license, three seat belt citations, one summons for drug abuse, one summons for drug paraphernalia, two citations for expired license plates and two referrals to juvenile court for curfew. There was also one felony arrest for possession of cocaine.
