Substitute dogs on ‘Person of Interest’

Q. Is there a different Belgian shepherd playing Bear on “Person of Interest”? He (or she) doesn’t look like the same dog to me.

A. Good eyes. Kate Bogle, an assistant director on the series, said there have been six, and possibly seven, different dogs playing Bear since he first appeared in the Season 2 premiere.

The original dog was named Grabauer’s Boker, the most recent is Gotcha. Gotcha arrived in the current, fifth season, and did all 13 episodes, Bogle said. “Season five is the only season it was consistently one dog. Even with Boker, his competition schedule required bringing in his brother, Milk.”

Q. Did Errol Flynn have any grandchildren in the movie business? What happened to Errol Flynn’s son, Sean? Why did Errol Flynn die in 1959?

A. Flynn had four children – three daughters and a son – from three marriages. His son Sean, an actor turned photojournalist, disappeared in Cambodia in 1970, during the Vietnam War, and is thought to have been captured and killed by enemy forces.

As for grandchildren, another Sean Flynn, the son of Errol’s daughter Rory, has acted in “Zoey 101,” “Devious Maids” and other productions. Actor Luke Flynn is the son of Errol’s daughter Arnella.

Flynn died of a heart attack, although his health also had been impaired by drugs and alcohol; he was only 50 at the time.

Q. I am wondering if the ABC drama “The Family” will be coming back for a second season. The show had so many twists and turns and the finale had such a shocking cliffhanger.

A. ABC did not include the series in its plans for next season. Deadline.com reported: “The dark drama starring Joan Allen struggled to get traction though (it) had some promising upticks in DVR viewing.”

Q. I am writing with regard to an episode on the “Golden Girls.” At one point Rose surprised everyone by doing cartwheels around the floor. Do you know if Betty White did these herself?

A. She did not. The scene included a stunt double.

Speaking of “The Golden Girls,” a recent column said Rue McClanahan was 61 when Golden Girls premiered. A reader who is better at math than I am pointed out that McClanahan was in fact 51 then, and the youngest of the “girls.”
