Junior League prepares for Pink Ribbon Tea

YOUNGSTOWN

The Junior League of Youngstown is sponsoring its 22nd annual Pink Ribbon Tea on Aug. 22 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. Invitations will be sent the end of June to women who are survivors of breast cancer or those who have been recently diagnosed.

The event is free but women must request an invitation from the event organizers because of the health care privacy policies. To receive an invitation contact the Junior League of Youngstown at 330-743-3200 or juniorleagueofyoungstown@gmail.com.

The Pink Ribbon Tea committee met recently to organize the event and begin the invitation process. Cochairmen are Patricia Greene and Barbara Banks, a breast cancer survivor.

The first Pink Ribbon Tea took place during the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tournament in 1994 when breast cancer survivors were honored.

The Junior League of Youngstown, established in 1929, has served the Mahoning Valley for more than 86 years. It also has been a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International since 1932.

The organization is a group of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its mission is educational and charitable.
