Gathering set for drug-abuse victims

BOARDMAN

Join Dennis Zitello Jr., of Youngstown, recovering addict and author of “In These Streets,” for an intimate event, “Walking in Recovery, In These Streets,” for those who have been victims of drug abuse.

It will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 2 at the Servicemen’s Pavilion, Boardman Park, 375 Boardman Poland Road.

There also will be a cookout and book signing.

The book provides poems that describe the mind of someone struggling and finding a pathway out of addiction.

Anyone who has been affected by the horror of drugs is welcome to attend. The purpose of the event is so that no one forgets that the war against drugs is still in the hearts of many victims.

8-year old pens children’s book

SAN DIEGO

Trisha Rao, 8, from San Diego, was touched by the plight of war- and terror-stricken Syrian refugees. With the help of her family, she began turning her poem into an illustrated children’s book encouraging children throughout the world to never stop believing in themselves.

“Believe in Yourself” introduces readers to Sunshine the pup and Papa Dog, who travel throughout the jungles of the world learning life lessons from their animal friends. The story ends with Papa Dog offering unconditional love to Sunshine.

Trisha has pledged to donate one copy of her book to refugee children around the world for every book she sells in 2016.

Her book received the 2016 Gold Medal from the Independent Publishers Book Awards in the category of Best Children’s eBook.
