OHSAA makes changes to cross country

columbus

The OHSAA Board of Directors approved a proposal which changes how schools are placed into their respective cross country tournament divisions (I, II or III). The proposal called for a school’s girls and boys enrollment to be combined, so that a school’s girls and boys teams were always in the same tournament division. This is expected to reduce travel costs for schools and ease the burden on schools that have one person serving as the girls and boys coach.

The board also approved changes to the process by which athletes and teams advance through the postseason. In years past, equal amounts of teams were sent to each region, causing some schools to travel far distances after a district meet. Now, each regional tournament will have a unique number of entrants.

The board also approved the increase in the number of state tournament qualifiers from 16 to 20 in each division.
