Motorcyclist injured

LAKE MILTON

A crash at about 12:30 p.m. Friday on Interstate 76 sent a motorcyclist to the hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports a tractor-trailer driven by a Columbus man tried to pass the motorcycle, but struck a barrier before striking the motorcycle in Milton Township.

After being ejected from the motorcycle, Roger Graves of Ravenna was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for injuries that are not life-threatening, according to the OSHP.

The OSHP cited the truck driver for a lane violation.

A lane on I-76 reopened after being closed for about a half-hour after the crash. The report did not have Graves’ age nor the age and name of the truck driver.

Falling tree hits power line, damages car

A fallen tree caused a considerable amount of damage to a car and power lines on Shields Road at 2:20 a.m. Friday, according to a police report.

Ronald Blatt Jr., 25, said he was driving on the road when he saw a flash of light and a tree falling in front of him.

The Youngstown resident slammed on his brakes but couldn’t stop in time, and the tree landed on the hood of his car.

Blatt was reportedly traveling at 35 mph with his seat belt on before the tree fell, and he suffered only a lip injury. The tree reportedly also struck a power line, and brought down a phone line.

Handguns missing

Police are looking for a couple of handguns that went missing from a residence on Erie Street on Thursday night, according to a police report.

The resident was out-of-state, and when a partner went to retrieve the handguns, they were gone.

Police asked for the serial number for the guns but the resident is still away from home and told officers the partner will look for them.

Disorderly conduct

AUSTINTOWN

Officers issued a summons to a Youngstown man for disorderly conduct after he reportedly forgot where he lived.

According to a police report, Raymond Bell, 57, of North Dunlap Avenue, was causing a disturbance Wednesday night at the Austintown Hobby Shop, 3645 Mahoning Ave., because he could not find his cigarettes. After receiving assistance from officers, Bell found his cigarettes in his pants pocket and advised officers he was heading home.

The police report says Bell was walking in the opposite direction of his home, falling down multiple times. Officers issued Bell a summons for disorderly conduct and advised him of his court date at 6 p.m. Monday at Mahoning County Area Court.

Woman accused of theft at Dollar General

AUSTINTOWN

Police arrested a Warren woman, accusing her of putting Dollar General items in her purse and leaving the Mahoning Avenue store without paying.

According to a report, Treva Kren, 54, of Mae Drive, entered Dollar General Wednesday afternoon with an empty purse and left with one that was bulging while she held it closed.

Officers arrested Kren for theft. She will have a hearing at 1 p.m. Monday in Mahoning County Area Court.

5 Minutes with Mayor

YOUNGSTOWN

“Five Minutes with the Mayor,” with Mayor John A. McNally, will be June 28, starting at 5 p.m., at the Rocky Ridge Neighborhood Community Gardens, 138 S. Hazelwood Ave. Citizens are invited to voice any questions or concerns they have regarding issues in the city with McNally for up to five minutes.

Corey Hunt reopens

BRISTOLVILLE

Corey Hunt Road in Bristol Township, between state Route 88 and Hyde-Shaffer Road, 1,100 feet south of Route 88, reopened Friday, said the Trumbull County Engineer’s office. The road had been closed since early June for a culvert replacement.

Help Hotline grant

YOUNGSTOWN

Help Hotline Crisis Center received a $5,000 grant for exercise equipment from the Youngstown Foundation for its community center, located on the city’s North Side.

The center will use the equipment as part of programming that encompasses wellness, health and well-being for individuals with mental illness, according to a Help Hotline news release.
