POLAND

Poland Historical Society and Ohio History Connection are sponsoring a new Ohio historical marker that will be unveiled June 25 during the Celebrate Poland festivities. The dedication begins at 11 a.m. at the gazebo next to the Town Hall. It is the seventh historical marker in Poland and commemorates the incorporation of Poland Village in 1866 and the Town Hall, which was built in 1845 as a private residence. Settlers in Poland date back to 1796.

Attendees will be able to visit the Historical Society’s tent near the Town Hall after the dedication to view items from Poland’s past. Two books will be for sale, Poland Historical Highlights, a reprint of a book published in 1966 for $10, and a new book with some of Poland’s history from the past 50 years for $15.

On May 14, the society hosted the unveiling and dedication of the sixth Ohio historical marker and the 43rd marker in Mahoning County. One side commemorates Poland Township as the first township surveyed in the Connecticut Western Reserve and the other side is dedicated to the 19th century one-room Little Red Schoolhouse. The marker was sponsored by Poland Historical Society, Poland Township Trustees and the Ohio History Connection.
