YOUNGSTOWN

Police found cash and drugs Thursday while serving a search warrant at a 3600 Southern Blvd. home.

Arrested on charges of possession of heroin and possession of drugs was James Davis, 53, who lists the home as his address; and Justin Davis, 31, of Pine Lake Road in Salem. They are not related.

Officers from the vice squad and the Community Police Unit served the warrant about 6 p.m.

Inside the home police found 41 pills, a digital scale, $1,500 in cash in a bag on the floor, an additional $305 in the pockets of James Davis, a bottle of syrup, several used needles and two bags of heroin.

Both James Davis and Justin Davis were taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Melissa Lourdes, 24, of Lourdes Avenue in Campbell, was issued a citation for possession of a drug abuse instrument and released with a court date.

During his arraignment Friday in municipal court, James Davis said the money was his and came from gambling.

“I just won it from Mountaineer the night before,” James Davis said. “I gamble every night mostly. That’s what I do. I gamble.”

Assistant City Prosecutor Kathy Thompson said James Davis has no recent criminal record, but noted a bank robbery 35 years ago. His bond was set at $6,500.

Bond for Justin Davis was also set at $6,500.
