YOUNGSTOWN

Thousands of FirstEnergySFlbcustomers in Trumbull County, where Girard was particularly hard-hit, lost power when heavy rain and high winds came through the area twice Thursday, bringing down tree limbs and power lines. Isolated areas in Columbiana County also lost power.

However, by 6 p.m., only a few FirstEnergy customers in Trumbull County remained without electricity and fewer than 80 outages still were being worked on in Columbiana County.

Storms and rain were expected to subside Thursday night and early today. However, the National Weather Service Thursday issued a flash-flood watch for Columbiana County until 8 a.m. today.

Woman: Boyfriend assaulted my dog

WARREN

A Vernon Avenue Northwest woman reported Wednesday evening that her boyfriend assaulted her dog.

When an officer arrived to go inside the apartment where the dog was thought to be, the woman’s boyfriend told the officer the dog was gone because he had let it go after it bit him.

Another couple told police that they had found the dog and taken it to the Champion Pet Center. It had a cut under its mouth, and it appeared someone had tried to cut the dog’s throat.

The owner was told to consult with Warren prosecutors about filing charges.
