Tree falls on car with driver inside

BOARDMAN — A fallen tree caused a considerable amount of damage to a car and power lines on Shields Road today at 2:20 a.m., according to a police report.

Ronald Blatt Jr., 25, said he was driving down the road in his 2007 silver Buick when he saw a flash of light and a tree falling in front of him. The Youngstown resident slammed the brakes but couldn't stop in time and the tree landed on the hood of the vehicle.

Blatt was reportedly traveling at 35 mph with his seat belt secured before hitting the tree and only received a lip injury.

The tree reportedly struck a power line as well as brought a phone line down.

The Mahoning County engineers have removed the tree and cleaned the area of debris.
