Track senior performs at state competition

Senior Brendon Lucas earned Division I All-Ohio in the 400-meter dash with a second place finish at the OHSAA State Championship at Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University. Lucas established a Boardman High School record in the event with a career-best time of 48.21.

“Brendon had an outstanding weekend,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips. “He set a new BHS record every time he ran in the final three weeks of the season and put on quite a show in Columbus.”

Lucas will represent Boardman High School as a member of Team Ohio at The Midwest Meet of Champions on the 4x400 relay team. The meet is a senior all-star invitational with Team Ohio competing against the best athletes from Michigan and Indiana. Lucas is the ninth member of the boys program to be selected to compete for Team Ohio since the meet was established. The meet will take place at Ohio Wesleyan University in suburban Columbus.

Spartan Assistant Coach Jason Armburger was selected as an assistant coach for Team Ohio, as well.

“This is a great honor for Brendon and Coach Armburger,” said Phillips. “They both deserve this tremendous recognition and will represent Boardman track very well.”
