RAVENNA

A Southington woman, Carly M. Desenburg, 27, died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of state Routes 5 and 59 just east of Ravenna in Portage County.

Two passengers in Desenburg’s vehicle, Levi D. Holmes, 26, of Brookfield, seated in the front-passenger seat, was transported with serious injuries to Akron City Hospital by the Rootstown Fire Department. Zachary M. Placer, 22, of Hubbard, seated in the right rear-passenger seat, suffered severe injuries and was transported by Metro Life Flight to Akron City Hospital, according to the Ravenna Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the second vehicle, Jeannette R. Charlton, 57, of Norton, suffered serious injuries and was transported to University Hospitals Portage County Medical Center by the Ravenna City Fire Department. There were no other occupants in her vehicle.

According to the patrol report, the crash occurred when Desenburg, who was eastbound on Route 59, failed to stop for the stop sign at Route 5, and struck Charlton’s vehicle, who was traveling southwest on Route 5. Desenburg’s car then went off the corner of the intersection and struck a utility pole. Everyone, with the exception of Placer, was wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the OSHP. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor.

The Ravenna Post was assisted by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the Portage County Prosecutor’s Officer, and the Ohio Department of Transportation, along with the OSHP’s crash-reconstruction unit.
