Children make cool treat for Mother’s Day

The Cornersburg Dairy Queen hosted a Sip and Paint event for Mother’s Day on May 7.
Dairy Queen gave children the opportunity to decorate an ice cream cake for their mother for Mother’s Day. The Cornersburg Dairy Queen has been putting on this event for about 10 years and does it twice a year, once for Mother’s Day and once Father’s Day.
Ray Smith, the owner of the Cornersburg Dairy Queen, said there is normally a good turnout with between 50-70 people showing up. When Dairy Queen started this event, people had to sign up to participate. Now there is the option to sign up prior to the event or walk in, which is what most people chose to do. The guests were able to pick out which size cake they wanted and if they wanted a regular Dairy Queen cake or a Blizzard cake.
“Kids really love interactive things, that’s why they’re decorating cakes,” said Smith.
Dairy Queen employees help each child decorate their cake, whether it be with airbrushing colors onto the cake or writing a special message on top. The employees are always happy to help and really enjoy working with the children, it’s something they have fun with.
“We just try to make their day,” said Smith.
The Cornersburg Dairy Queen puts on several events throughout the year. They host an Easter event, Miracle Treat Day, customer appreciation day, pumpkin hunts and a Christmas event. The events are to bring children and their families in to enjoy interactive activities and make their own treats.
