Shears, Finley to team up again in ‘Sunshine Boys’

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Terry Shears and Bill Finley will again team up at the Victorian Players Theater as the stars of “The Sunshine Boys.”

The two actors most recently were in “Moonlight and Magnolias” at the Vic in April.

“The Sunshine Boys” is a comedy written by Neil Simon. It will be directed by Marlene Menaldi Strollo, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and June 24 and 25; and at 2 p.m. Sunday and June 26.

The theater is at 702 Mahoning Ave.

Tickets are $12 ($9 for students and senior citizens); for reservations, call 330-746-5455. For Father’s Day weekend, all dads will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card from Lowe’s.

The play’s protagonists are Al Lewis (Shears) and Willie Clark (Finley). Lewis and Clark were once a successful vaudevillian comedy duo known as the Sunshine Boys. During the later years of their 43-year run, animosity between the partners grew to the point where they stopped speaking with each other.

When CBS requests them for a “History of Comedy” retrospective, a grudging reunion brings the two back together, along with a flood of memories, miseries and laughs.

Rounding out the cast are Tom Kusiowski, Anita Weinstock, Jennifer Milligan, Mike Brady and Stephen Kountz.

Season flex-passes are on sale and can be purchased by calling the theater. For each flex-pass purchased during the run of “The Sunshine Boys,” the buyer will receive a free ticket good for any show in the 2016-17 season, as well as the three special events.
