Historical society sets open house
YOUNGSTOWN
Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host its monthly 140th anniversary open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave. Visitors will receive buy-one, get-one free admission sponsored by Home Savings Charitable Foundation.
Guests can test their knowledge of local history with a quiz game at 1 p.m. in the Carriage House. Lea Mollman, museum curator, will present “Are You Smarter than a Local Historian.” Participants will watch a presentation on Mahoning Valley history then answer questions to win prizes.
The 140th anniversary open houses are planned the third Saturday of each month alternating between the Tyler History Center and Arms Family Museum. Each includes admission discounts and experiences with MVHS collections, archives or education staff.

Beatitude House calls for photos
YOUNGSTOWN
Amateur and professional photographers in the Valley are invited to enter Photography Works, a juried exhibition for regional artists to mark Beatitude House’s 25th anniversary. Regional artists must be within 50 miles of any Beatitude site.
Age categories are 18 years and older who are unpaid hobbyists and youths 18 years and younger who are enrolled in local schools or universities.
Photographs must reflect Beatitude House’s mission statement. Dr. Louis Zona, executive director and chief curator at Butler Institute of American Art, will judge.
Two photographs may be submitted. Printed photographs become the property of Beatitude House and may be sold at auction at a later date.
There is a $10 entry fee; mail to Beatitude House, 238 Tod Lane, Youngstown, OH 44504, to the Development Department. Deadline to submit is Aug. 1 by email to development@beatitudehouse.com.

Lodges plan picnic at Strossmayer
VIENNA
United CFU Lodges of Mahoning Shenango Valleys plan the annual picnic from noon to 8 p.m. June 26 at Strossmayer Picnic Grounds, state Route 193.
There will be barbecued lamb and pork and pastries. Six Tamburitzan groups will perform. Mickey Dee also will entertain.
Admission is $5. Public is welcome.
