BOARDMAN

The township trustees plan to re-evaluate the estimated cost of their new cold-storage barn after looking at the construction bids.

The estimated price was set at $427,000, but three bids submitted exceeded that estimate. The bids were $479,500, $597,000 and $598,000.

Trustee Brad Calhoun said the township’s engineer and road superintendent will re-evaluate the costs and return June 27 with a new estimate.

The new barn, along with a new fire station, will be constructed on the old high-school Spartan football stadium behind Center Middle School. The land was acquired through a land swap with the Boardman school district announced April 27.

As part of the swap, the school district will get township property off Tod Avenue that now houses the old township cold-storage facility. The school district will build a new bus garage there to replace the one on McClurg Road.

In other business, the trustees hired two new part-time custodians, Mike Lewis and Kathy Fait. Lewis will have a start date Monday. Fait’s is to be determined.

The trustees also officially approved Sarah Convery as the seasonal receptionist for the zoning office who started working June 6. Convery will be paid $9 per hour and will continue the position through August.

The trustees also honored resident Anna Saxton, the sole Boardman woman recognized by the YWCA of Youngstown’s Young Women With Bright Futures Teen Recognition Program of 2016.

The program recognizes women in the Youngstown area with achievements in leadership, school/community service, scholarship/academic excellence and creative talents, according to the YWCA. Saxton is enrolled this fall at the University of Mount Union in Alliance.
