Joey Logano wins race at Michigan

BROOKLYN, Mich.

Joey Logano pulled away from the pack to win the FireKeepers Casino 400, becoming the 10th driver to win a NASCAR race this season.

The pole-setter moved past rookie Chase Elliott on lap 153 Sunday and stayed ahead for the 15th Sprint Cup series victory of his career in the 15th race of the year.

Elliott finished a career-best second, followed by Kyle Larson, Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick at Michigan International Speedway.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who finished 39th out of 40, is the only winner from 2015 that is winless this year.

IndyCar race pushed to August due to rain

FORT WORTH, TEXAS

The IndyCar race at soggy Texas has been postponed for the second day in a row, and this time the series will wait more than two months before trying again.

Only 71 of the scheduled 248 laps were completed Sunday before rain in an approaching thunderstorm hit the track. That was 54 laps short of what was needed to make it an official race after the Firestone 600 had initially been postponed Saturday night.

With a 50 percent chance of more rain Monday, IndyCar instead rescheduled the race for Aug. 27, which is during what had been an open weekend for the series.

The cars had taken the green flag about 40 minutes later than scheduled Sunday following work to dry the 11/2-mile track. The race had first been called off about 11:30 p.m. Saturday after several hours trying to dry the track after afternoon rain.

Late goal lifts Peru 1-0, eliminates Brazil

FOXBOROUGH, Mass.

Peru stunned Brazil 1-0 Sunday night, eliminating it from Copa America on a late goal by Raul Ruidiaz that may have been a hand ball.

Peru beat Brazil for the first time in 31 years to win Group B and will face Colombia in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Dominated for most of the game, Peru’s Andy Polo managed a takeaway and crossed to Ruidiaz in the box. He deflected the ball into the net, and Brazil keeper Alisson immediately complained the ball also made contact with Ruidiaz’s hand. After a lengthy discussion by referees, the goal was allowed.

Peru had 10 losses, six draws since 1985) Brazil is eliminated after reaching at least the quarterfinals of every Copa America since 1993.

The group stage loss also could put the job of Brazil manager Dunga at risk.
