Drugs, gun found after traffic stop

YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said police found a 9mm semiautomatic handgun with a 30-round clip during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Police pulled over a car about 12:25 a.m. driven by Terrence Craig, 24, of Freedom Street in Campbell, at Rush Boulevard and East Avondale Avenue for running a stop sign, reports said.

Reports said the car smelled heavily of marijuana and Craig and a passenger, Deandre Stores, 24, of Hawthorne Street in Struthers, were asked to get out of the car so it could be searched by police dog Majo. Reports said Majo detected the odor of drugs and the car was searched further.

Reports said marijuana was found where Craig was sitting and the gun was found under the seat where Stores was sitting. Stores was taken to the Mahoning County jail on a charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Craig was issued citations for running a stop sign and possession of marijuana and given a court date.
