Columbus suburb considers on-street golf carts

WORTHINGTON, Ohio

A northern suburb of Columbus is studying a plan to allow golf carts on city streets.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the city of Worthington launched the review after it was brought to a city councilman by his sister-in-law.

Councilman Michael Troper says his relative “thought it would be a fun idea” and others thought it was worth exploring.

They are looking to the experience of two other central Ohio communities. Canal Winchester allowed golf carts on certain streets in 2007. Upper Arlington reviewed and rejected the idea in 2010.

Under Ohio law, golf carts may be legal within specific parameters and with safety features added. They must be titled, licensed and insured like any other vehicle.

Worthington’s decision isn’t close. Troper said he doesn’t want to create traffic hassles.
