Junior girls chosen to attend Girls State

ALLIANCE

American Legion Auxiliary, Lake Milton Unit 737, is sponsoring three juniors from Western Reserve High School and one from Jackson-Milton High School to attend the annual session of Buckeye Girls State at the University of Mount Union.

Local delegates are Amanda Badgett, Natalie Ettinger, Sierra Kilbert and Heather Kirk.

They will be among 900 girls participating in the session, which runs Sunday through June 18.

Attendees will participate in a fast-paced program of mock government at the state, county and city levels, learning about the democratic form of government.

They will be assigned to one of two political parties; the residence hall where they live will be their designated county and the floor where they live will be their city.

The students file petitions for candidacy for various offices from governor to city council and participate in the election process.

After elections and inaugurations, they put government into action.
