Fortnight for Freedom observance
Fortnight for Freedom observance
YOUNGSTOWN
Fortnight for Freedom is 14 days of prayer, education and action for religious freedom in the United States and abroad called for by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty.
The Fortnight for Freedom takes place from June 21 to July 4 with the theme, “Witnesses to Freedom.”
In the Church’s liturgical calendar, this two-week period coincides with celebrations of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of religious persecution by political power including St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul and the First Martyrs of the Church in Rome.
Bishop George V. Murry will celebrate the 10:30 a.m. Mass on July 3 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., as the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day.
All are welcome to celebrate and reflect upon our religious freedom – “our most cherished liberty.”
A coffee and doughnut reception will follow in the cathedral social hall. Information will be available regarding religious liberty and the civil responsibility of Catholics.
Catholic parishes throughout the Diocese of Youngstown are encouraged to celebrate the Fortnight for Freedom and make information available to parishioners. Visit www.fortnight4freedom.org or www.doy.org or call the Diocese of Youngstown’s Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Life at 330-744-8451, ext.272.
