The Boardman High School choral music department hosted its 65th annual Spring Choral Music Festival on May 11 at the Boardman Performing Arts Center.

The 2016 Spring Sing was directed by Linda Smrek and had performances by the mixed chorus, the Boardman Singers, the chorale, the choir and the Spartan Singers. The theme for the Spring Sing was “Back to Broadway.” The opening performance was the Boardman High School Alma Mater performed by all of the students in the choral music department.

Senior Aliza Patterson performed “Solfeggio” as a piano solo after the Boardman Singers finished their songs. After her performance, Patterson was acknowledged for receiving the director’s award of the American Choral Association plaque.

“Her name will hang in our room forever,” said Smrek.

Songs for the second part of the concert featured selections from “Les Miserables,” “Jersey Boys,” “Wicked,” “Shrek” and “Mary Poppins.” Several students showcased their talents with solos during different songs throughout the concert.

The senior farewell featured two songs that wished the seniors in the choral music department well.

The concert came to a conclusion, staying in the theme of Broadway, with the song “New York, New York” performed by all of the choirs.
