Beeghley Oaks Center for Rehabilitation and Healing celebrated National Nursing Home Week May 9-13. Residents at Beeghley Oaks had a Hawaiian day for Resident Appreciation Day on May 10. The Sugartree Alley Steel Drum Band attended Hawaiian day to perform music for the residents and any other guests who attended.
Carol Zeigler, the Director of Concierge Services, was at the Tiki Time hut passing out Hawaiian-themed drinks for the residents to enjoy. There were pi ±a coladas and a Beeghley Oaks speciality drink, Beeghley Breezes, for the residents to choose from. There was a limbo and a hula hoop contest for the guests to participate in. Many of the residents dressed in Hawaiian outfits to celebrate. Two residents, Esther Woodruff and Margie Mills, dressed up in fat Hawaiian costumes and hula danced to the music.
“We had a big celebration all week long with an open house. We put new flags on the flagpole, we had a big wheelchair race,” said Maureen McCarty, activities director for Beeghley Oaks.
Residents participated in several activities, regular and Hawaiian themed, throughout National Nursing Home Week. The activities gave the residents the opportunity to go outside and enjoy the nice weather with each other while being provided with different forms of entertainment.
