Only adult charged in East High melee gets probation, fine

YOUNGSTOWN — The only adult who was charged in a series of fights at East High School in March was sentenced Friday to fines, probation and community service

Jo’Quan Blair, 18, pleaded no contest in municipal court to an amended charge of disorderly conduct, a fourth degree misdemeanor. He was found guilty by Judge Robert Milich.

Under his plea agreement, Blair was sentenced to a year of probation, a $100 fine, court costs and 40 hours of community service.

Assistant City Prosecutor Shelli Freeze said she agreed with the recommendation because Blair has no criminal record. The maximum sentence he could have received is 30 days in jail.

Besides Blair, 14 juveniles face charges in juvenile court for their roles in the fights March 8 at East, which forced school to close for the day and the next day.
