Judge Rusu announces MetroParks board appointees

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Probate Court Judge Robert N. Rusu Jr.’s appointees to the Mill Creek MetroParks board are Lee Frey and Thomas Shipka, he announced today.

Frey is a former Canfield mayor and teacher, according to a news release. Shipka is the former chairman of Youngstown State University’s department of philosophy and religious community.

The judge, who selected from five candidates referred to him by a screening committee, said in a release that he was “impressed with Mr. Frey’s ability to easily communicate his ideas and his past public service.”

Of Shipka, the judge noted that he is “a well-respected member of Mahoning County who has served in many leadership roles and brings many years of community service to the park.”

Frey and Shipka will be sworn in as park commissioners at 3 p.m. Friday at the MetroParks office in Canfield.
