METRO DIGEST || Bark Out Animal Abuse event Saturday
Halt animal abuse
NILES
A “Bark Out Animal Abuse” event is set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 104 E. State St., in the pavilion near the bike trail. The Cleveland Animal Rights Exchange, Nitro’s Ohio Army of Mahoning/Trumbull and surrounding counties, and Justice Rallies are partnering to host the event and raise awareness of animal abuse, and to change current laws to make animal abuse a felony in Ohio. The groups are particularly focused on Senate Bill 195, which would make bestiality a crime in the state. Ohio is one of 11 states without such laws.
Petitions will be available to sign at the event, and local rescue groups will provide information on how to get involved. Cookies and coffee will be served. The site of the event does not allow pets; participants are asked to leave animals at home.

YOUNGSTOWN
A Youngstown woman’s parked car was damaged by bricks and concrete that fell from the side of an apartment building on the city’s South Side, and the car’s owner is afraid bricks will fall on people.
Becky Shelton came out Tuesday to use her vehicle and found debris surrounding her car parked next to the building on the 100 block of East Midlothian Boulevard. Damage to the car includes a shattered windshield, broken side mirrors and the roof penetrated by a brick that landed near a baby seat.
Shelton told 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, that she feels blessed to be alive and no one was injured. The area of debris has been taped off.
