Police said they found suspected drugs on four people Tuesday in three traffic stops.
About 4:50 p.m., police cited Renee Clark, 53, of New Castle, Pa., on a charge of possession of drugs, and arrested Tiffany Mesko, 26, also of New Castle, on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police reports, Clark was driving a car police pulled over at Zedaker and East Avondale avenues on the South Side for running a red light, and Mesko gave a false name. The two said they were in Youngstown because Mesko’s husband was getting surgery at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, yet they could not say why they were on the opposite side of town. St. Elizabeth is on the North Side.
Because the women were not being truthful and appeared nervous, reports said they were asked to get out of the car. Clark reached into her pocket despite being told not to, and when she turned her pockets inside-out, a pill fell on the ground, reports said.
The name that Mesko gave police could not be found in any records, but she eventually admitted her real identity and it was discovered she had a warrant. Reports said Mesko was searched by a female officer and she had a small rock of suspected heroin.
At the Mahoning County jail, corrections officers found a needle on Mesko.
About 5:25 p.m., police arrested Sergio Rivera, 32, of East Florida Avenue, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine after a car he was driving was pulled over in the 700 block of East Florida for an improper turn.
According to police reports, Rivera appeared anxious and had a hand in his coat pocket and he refused to take it out. An officer searched Rivera and found a crack pipe. A bag of suspected crack cocaine also was found in his pants pocket, reports said.
About the same time, officers pulled over a car at Glenwood and St. Louis avenues on the South Side for an improper turn, and one of the passengers, Martwan Treharn, 23, had a warrant.
According to a police report, when the driver, Clarence Williams, 33, of Youngstown, was searched by police, a bottle of painkillers was found in his pocket and they found 79 of the 150 pills missing. Reports said Williams did not answer when asked where the other pills were.
Police cited Williams for driving under suspension and possession of drugs. Police took Treharn to jail on his warrant, which was for a charge of possession of drugs.
