Cavaliers watch party at downtown event

The first in the new Downtown Shutdown series of outdoor parties will be a watch party of Game 4 of the NBA Finals series, pitting the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Golden State Warriors. It will take place Friday in the city parking lot on West Federal Street, between North Phelps and North Hazel streets, with a big screen.
DJ Blaze, a video DJ based in Las Vegas, will perform before the game and during stoppages. Admission will be free between 4 and 6 p.m., and $5 afterward. The party will include a bar and food trucks. DJ Brandon also will provide music before the game.
Nelson, Kristofferson at Nelson Ledges

Gratefulfest 2016, featuring Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Keller Williams, Melvin Seals and JGB, Rusted Root, and many more bands, will take place July 1-4 at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, 12001 Nelson Ledges Road.
Nelson and Kristofferson will headline July 1, with Williams opening; Seals and JGB will headline July 2, with Terrapin Flyer (featuring Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten) opening; and Rusted Root headlines July 3.
Other well-known acts appearing throughout the weekend include Into The Blue, JiMiller Band, Terrapin Moon, Tino Navarra, Diesel Dog and Drunken Sunday. Admission is $150 (presale only) for Friday through Monday. There is no extra charge for camping. Go to nlqp.com.
Art exhibition to open at DNA Studios gallery

An exhibition titled “The Lay of the Land,” featuring works by regional artists, will open Saturday at DNA Studios Gallery, 137 S. Park Ave., with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m.
Artists include James Pernotto, R. Jason Vanhoose, Nikki Puccini, Rachel Hathhorn, Bill Barron, Dennis Freet, Dennis Kirsch and Amber Slick. The reception will include music by Dollar Bill. Call 330-980-8794 for information.
Concert band welcomes alumni
CANFIELD
The Canfield Community Concert Band will give a free concert on the Green in Canfield at 7 p.m. Monday. The band is celebrating its 40th anniversary and is inviting all former members to attend the concert and be recognized.
All former directors of the CCC band also will be recognized at the concert. The program will consist of movie themes, marches, patriotic songs and hymns.

Contra dance at Dublin Grange

There will be a contra dance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the former Dublin Grange building on Fairground Boulevard, near U.S. route 224. Admission is $8.
The lively colonial-era dance style will be taught at the dance by instructors. No experience is necessary, and participants need not have a partner. Music will be by One String Short.
Arts academy offers summer program

The Southside Fine Arts Academy will offer summer programming in collaboration with Neighborhood Ministries Center at Rockford Village, 1402B Dogwood Lane, on Wednesdays through Aug. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Classes include creative writing/ poetry, choir, visual arts, dance and drum circle and are open to all children in grades K-12 at no charge. Lunch is provided each day to children up to age 18.
Summer programming will resume at the Fairview Arts and Outreach Center, 4420 Youngstown-Poland Road, July 19 through Aug. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. The academy will work in collaboration with Top Hat Productions’ Summer Youth Workshop, which will take place on Thursdays.

Top Hat offers youth workshop

Children age 5 to 12 are invited to attend Top Hat Productions’ Summer Youth Workshop. The program is free, and a meal is served at each session.
Participants will meet once a week for six weeks, beginning July 21. Instruction touches on stage movement and stage presence, while encouraging new friendships and promoting self-esteem. A stage production for families and friends will take place Aug. 28.

Camp Show Biz! will end with a show

Camp Show Biz!, a new theater camp for students in grades K through 12, will have its first four-week session Monday through Thursday July 11-Aug. 5 at Trinity Fellowship Church, 4749 South Ave. Hours are 9 a,m. to 1 p.m. each day. For information or to register, call 330-406-0606.
Campers will be led through the entire experience of creating and producing a show, from auditions to opening night. Classes will include acting, movement, voice, marketing and theater games, as well as set construction, lighting, sound design and makeup. The camp will culminate in a performance for parents and guests on the last day. Instructors are local theater artists and drama teachers.
The cost for the camp is $130, which includes a daily lunch. Some scholarship assistance is available for qualified applicants.
All campers will be offered roles in the Kids’ First Theatre Initiative’s production of “The Wizard of Oz” in October. The organization recently had a vocal competition, Mahoning Valley Singing Star Jr. and will soon unveil plans for performance opportunities and classes for young people interested in theater.
