YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a woman and a man in separate traffic stops late Monday and early Tuesday.

Reports said Larry Reynolds, 53, of Wood Street, argued with officers Mark Sember and Anthony Trimble about what kind of cocaine he had after he was pulled over about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at East Commerce and North Champion streets for an improper turn.

After he stopped, Reynolds was asked to get out of his car because it smelled heavily of marijuana, and the officers wanted to search it.

As they were trying to search the car, reports said Reynolds was trying to distract the officers until they finally managed to look inside and found a ripped sandwich bag and what appeared to be several chunks of suspected crack cocaine.

Reynolds told the officers that it was not crack cocaine they found but powder cocaine. Reports said he then argued that he should not be charged with possessing crack cocaine even when the officers told him there was no difference legally. He continued arguing while on the way to the Mahoning County jail, where he was booked on a charge of possession of cocaine.

Earlier, about 10:40 p.m. Monday, officer Stephen Gaetano pulled over a car at East Ravenwood Avenue and Market Street driven by Dinique Wilson, 28, of Farrell, Pa., because the license plates on her car did not match the registration.

Reports said Wilson gave police a false name, and because they could not figure out her identity, she was placed in handcuffs. She then provided police with another name that also was fake, reports said.

As Wilson was being questioned, police noticed a plastic bag sticking out of her bra strap, and when they asked her what was in the bag, she said it was cocaine, reports said. When officers asked her if she could get the bag for them if they took her cuffs off, she told them, “You might as well not even take them off.” A female officer from another department was called and retrieved the bag, which had traces of a powder inside it, reports said. The bag was taken as evidence.

Wilson also has six open suspensions on her license and was wanted on a warrant. She was taken to the jail where she also was charged with obstructing official business.
