Free meals for kids

AUSTINTOWN

Free meals for children this summer are available at Austintown Elementary School, 245 Idaho Road-Lynn Kirk Loop. Austintown School District announced its sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program for Children, making free meals available to all children under 18.

Meals will be served Monday through Friday until Aug. 18. Breakfast is from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., and lunch, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Every Wednesday, there will be a craft activity for kids from 10 to 11 a.m.

Akron Children’s

BOARDMAN

Representatives from Boardman Subaru will present a check for $32,000 to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley at 11 a.m. Thursday in the main lobby of Building D on the hospital’s Beeghly campus, 6505 Market St.

The donation represents the total raised from the 2015 Subaru Share the Love event for which Akron Children’s was selected as the hometown charity partner. The Share the Love program at Boardman Subaru raised more than $27,000 for the hospital, and the dealership donated an extra $5,000, bringing the total to $32,000. Over the past two years, Boardman Subaru has donated more than $62,000 to the local hospital.

Subaru’s year-end Share the Love program donates $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased. In total, Subaru has donated nearly $70 million to charitable organizations over the past eight years.

Meth lab halted

WARREN

Law-enforcement officers halted a methamphetamine lab during a search of a trailer in the Villager Mobile Home Park on Tod Avenue in Warren Township on Monday.

Arrested were Joshua J. Fackler, 30, of Garrettsville on a felony charge of assembly or possession of chemicals used to manufacture a controlled substance and a warrant for criminal trespass; and Gary Berenics, 53, of Blossom Drive on an unrelated theft warrant.

Both were taken to the Trumbull County jail. A not-guilty plea was entered for Fackler on Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court. Berenics pleaded not guilty on his misdemeanor charge.

Members of the Trumbull-Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office Clandestine Meth Response Team conducted the search.

Fatal crash

WARREN

A Champion Township man died in a 2:30 p.m. single-car crash Monday on Tod Avenue Northwest near Moncrest Avenue. Robert Spencer, 52, was pronounced dead at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Police said his car left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Police continue to investigate.

Term increases

Council is reviewing legislation that would send a term-increase request for city council members and council president to the Trumbull County Board of Elections to be placed on the Nov. 8 ballot. If approved, terms would increase from two years to four. Council voted this week to send the resolution to a second of three readings.

KidX Club kickoff

Southern Park Mall, 7401 Market St., will kick off its new KidX Club program with its first event, “X Marks the Spot,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event, which will be in Center Court, is one of many that will take place during the year. “X Marks the Spot” will challenge new members with a treasure hunt to search for X’s hidden throughout the mall. Idora farmers market

The third season of the Idora Neighborhood Farmers Market will open at 2600 Glenwood Ave. at Sherwood Avenue, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday through Oct. 4.

Available at the first market will be goods from Zaney Pearl Farm, Pancake Maples, Carol’s Homemade Baked Goods, Iron Roots Urban Farm, Lady Buggs Farm, Marcie’s Jams and More, Truffle Laboratory, Rocky Ridge Gardens, Gardenview Acres and more. The Big Green Thing food truck will serve prepared food.

The market will double purchases for individuals using their food stamp (EBT/SNAP) cards up to $20 per market visit, thanks to the Mercy Health Foundation.

Police are investigating a report of a car stolen from outside a Northview Boulevard home. A woman told police Monday she returned from a weekend trip to find her 2006 Infiniti missing.
