U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown announced $50,688 in federal funding to provide rental assistance paired with health services for homeless veterans in Youngstown.
“Even one homeless veteran is too many,” said Brown, a Cleveland Democrat. “Our veterans have earned our gratitude, and we cannot stand by while some of them face life on the street. The housing assistance provided [through this funding] is an important investment in ensuring that all Youngstown veterans have a place to call home.”
The awarded grant will fund housing assistance for 11 veterans, Brown said Tuesday.
The funding is part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing voucher program.
The Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority will provide rental assistance while working in partnership with the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center’s Youngstown Outpatient Clinic to provide case management and health services to homeless veterans.
