Youngstown State University officials will announce a seven-figure gift this morning at Beede Field at Stambaugh Stadium.

This marks the fourth seven-figure gift to the university in the last four months.

CEO introduction

YOUNGSTOWN

Krish Mohip, the first Youngstown City Schools chief executive officer, will be introduced to the community at 2 p.m. today at Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St.

The Youngstown City Schools Academic Distress Commission selected Mohip, a Chicago Public Schools administrator, for the post from a field of more than 30 applicants.

OVI checkpoint

AUSTINTOWN

One driver was cited for operating a vehicle impaired and three others for driving under suspension after a Mahoning County OVI Task Force checkpoint Saturday evening in the 4000 block of Mahoning Avenue.

A release from the task force said 569 vehicles passed through the checkpoint from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Three people were issued citations for drug abuse and an addition for drug paraphernalia, the release said.

Park pond open

YOUNGSTOWN

Mill Creek MetroParks’ Lily Pond now is reopened to the public after closing at the end of April for a parking-lot rehabilitation project.

Although minor aspects of the project still are being completed, visitors now can access the pond, surrounding trails and the parking lot, a MetroParks representative told The Vindicator.

The MetroParks used grant funding through the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for the project that improved the parking lot and added biofiltration areas.
