Free learning

YOUNGSTOWN

The Oak Hill Collaborative announced that one of its Makerspace participants, Carol Busich, has successfully completed six months of the collaborative’s Hour of Code workshop for neighborhood residents, students, the unemployed, and anyone interested in learning about programming.

The beginning of a series of free lectures and workshops designed to impart basic familiarity with coding, hopefully with the result that it will lead to further education and possible careers, especially by inner-city residents who traditionally have not been exposed to such activities.

The Makerspace is a “community center with tools,” providing access to an array of equipment and tools including several 3-D printers, computers, wood-working equipment, and assorted hand tools, says an Oak Hill Collaborate news release. The collaborative is located at 507 Oak Hill Ave.

Flag Day event

WARREN

The Sutliff Museum, on the second floor of Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave., is having a summer open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday to celebrate Flag Day. The public is invited to have lemonade and cookies along with a visit to the museum’s Victorian parlor and an American-flag activity for kids.

The parlor was created with furniture, paintings and possessions from the Sutliff family home, which was built in Warren in 1850 and located on High Street. The family home was maintained in authentic Victorian style until the death of Phebe Temperance Sutliff in 1955.
