Stolen dog found, returned to pound
YOUNGSTOWN
A dog named Elliott has been found after being stolen about two weeks ago from the Mahoning County dog pound, the Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV reports.
Residents of an Anoka Drive home returned the dog, saying they had bought the pit bull terrier on the street for $400.
Investigators, however, are skeptical of that story, saying the residents may have been motivated by reward money raised by volunteers, according to WFMJ.
Charges could be forthcoming.

The K-8 school, which opened in 1870, announced last month it would close in fall 2016. Officials cited financial problems and declining enrollment.
The school, located on East Water Street, enrolled 98 students in 2016, down from 167 in 2006, according to the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown.
Women seek identity of shooter of pet cat
WARREN
A woman and her daughter from Palmyra Road Southwest are hoping police can determine who shot their cat, a year-old male named “Two Toes,” Thursday morning.
The younger woman found Two Toes under a small trampoline with a gunshot in the chest that apparently traveled to his front leg.
The women took Two Toes to a Champion Township veterinarian, who found pieces of the bullet in the cat’s leg, she said. The leg had to be amputated, and the cost was $1,200. Two Toes came home Friday.
The younger woman declined to give her name but said she and her mother are “not stopping until something is done” to the person who did this. “That’s just wrong,” she said.
Juveniles questioned, released in rock drop
LIBERTY
A man driving along state Route 11 in the township Friday decided he wasn’t going to let someone get away with dropping a rock onto his BMW.
According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the driver called Trumbull County dispatch just before 2 p.m., after he said the rock struck the trunk lid of his car as he was passing under the Niles Vienna Road bridge.
The victim left the highway and searched the area until he spotted some juveniles swimming near the dam at Upper Girard Lake.
He held the juveniles until cruisers arrived from Liberty and Vienna, as well as the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department.
But after questioning the juveniles, authorities let them go because they could not link them with the rock-dropping incident.

Domestic violence case
YOUNGSTOWN
An Edgar Avenue man was given probation and ordered to attend anger-management classes Friday after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence.
Mark Hollinshead, 50, was found guilty by Judge Elizabeth Kobly. Hollinshead was arrested Feb. 9 after a woman at his home said he came home drunk, dragged her up a flight of stairs by her hair and smacked her in the back of the head.
Hollinshead’s attorney, Desire DiPiero, told the judge Hollinshead has not faced any charges in 12 years and did not condone the attack but said Hollinshead was upset because the woman had squandered his money on drugs.
