Ohio State rallies to beat Wright State

LOUISVILLE, Ky.

Jalen Washington had a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning to push Ohio State past Wright State 7-6 on Friday in the opening game of the Louisville Regional.

Ronnie Dawson singled in the tying run two batters earlier for the Buckeyes (44-18) before scoring the game-winner as Washington drove a bases-loaded, two-out pitch deep to center field and just over the glove of Zach Weatherford.

Dawson knocked in three runs and scored twice for Ohio State, which faces the winner of Friday’s second game between top-seeded Louisville and No. 4 seed Western Michigan in the NCAA Tournament. Kyle Michalik pitched 12/3 innings for the victory.

Ohio State led 5-0 after two-run doubles by Dawson and Troy Montgomery and an RBI single by Jacob Bosiokovic in the bottom of the third. Montgomery finished with four hits.

Keselowski leads Penske sweep

LONG POND, PA.

With rain falling, Brad Keselowski led a Team Penske front-row sweep and won the pole at Pocono Raceway.

Keselowski and teammate Joey Logano gave owner Roger Penske and Ford the top spots the race Sunday.

Keselowski turned a lap of 181.726 mph in the third round and rain hitting the track. He just nudged Logano out of the top spot to clinch his first pole of the season.

Rain washed out the only Sprint Cup practice and two practices for the Xfinity Series. The Cup cars attempted practice in the morning, but only 28 cars hit the track in roughly 10 minutes before rain brought the incomplete session to a halt.

L.T.’s wife arrested for domestic violence

PEMBROKE PINES, FLA.

The wife of former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor has been arrested on a domestic violence charge after she admitted throwing an object that hit her husband in the head, causing a 3-inch cut.

A Pembroke Pines police report released Friday says 42-year-old Lynette Taylor admitted throwing the unidentified object at their home in South Florida but resisted being placed into custody by police.

Lynette Taylor is charged with battery and resisting an office without violence, both misdemeanors. The report says Lawrence Taylor does not want to prosecute his wife. An attorney for Lynette Taylor was not listed in court or jail records. Lawrence Taylor, known as “L.T.”, played his entire Hall of Fame career with the Giants from 1981-93, winning two Super Bowls with the team.

Colombia shuts out U.S. in Copa opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif.

Cristian Zapata scored his first international goal, James Rodriguez added a 42nd-minute penalty kick, and Colombia beat the United States 2-0 Friday night in the opener of the Copa America.

U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann spoke before this about the importance of a strong showing in the special edition 100th anniversary Copa to create buzz for a potential 2026 World Cup bid. Instead, the 31st-ranked Americans began the biggest tournament at home since the 1994 World Cup with a dud as FIFA President Gianni Infantino watched among the sellout crowd of 67,439.

Geoff Cameron lost his mark on the first goal, and DeAndre Yedlin left a raised arm that led to a hand ball call and Rodriguez’s penalty kick.

The Americans will look to rebound on Tuesday against Costa Rica at Chicago, then close their group stage four days later against Paraguay at Philadelphia.
