Dr. Joseph Ohr, Mahoning County forensic pathologist, said a woman found shot to death in a West Boston Avenue home Wednesday died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Dr. Ohr said Teonia Gowdy, 27, died instantly from the wound. Gowdy was found by two friends in an upstairs room at the home. Police have yet to make an arrest in her case. Her death is the eighth homicide in the city this year.

Drug, gun charges

YOUNGSTOWN

A federal grand jury has indicted four men on drug and weapons charges.

Tawayme Jett, 36; Jamal Pusey, 37; Michael Reynolds, 33; and Olajuwon Perkins, 26, are charged with conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and distribution of crack cocaine. Jett and Pusey also are facing charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A news release from Carole S. Rendon, acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District Of Ohio, said the four are accused of selling the drugs between March and June 2015, using two homes in Youngstown that Pusey controlled to sell drugs and store weapons.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Redesign in Warren

Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership is hosting The New School, a progressive university in New York City, to present “Designing New Live-Work Spaces: Redesigning the Housing of the Garden District Neighborhood in Warren, Ohio.”

The event, a partnership between Trumbull Art Gallery and the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, is free and open to the public. It will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at TAG’s The Short Cut Gallery, 141 W. Market St.

Parking is available on the street or in the Franklin Street Parking Deck, 142 Franklin. Light food and refreshments will be provided by Beautiful Whirl’d, a new smoothie and sandwich shop in The Short Cut.

The New School will continue to map a long-term strategy and explore the city’s capacity for community development.

Soil-testing workshop Monday

BOARDMAN

The Mahoning County Farm Bureau and the Alliance for Watershed Action and Resource Education (AWARE) will host a soil-testing workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Boardman Park’s Southern Park Stables, 126 Washington Blvd.

The workshop is a collaborative event with Boardman Park, the Ohio State University Extension Office, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, Mahoning County Engineer’s Office and Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District.

Steve Prebonick, certified soil scientist for Mahoning County, and Eric Barrett, OSU Extension director for Mahoning County, will discuss Mahoning County’s soil types, the importance of understanding soil-nutrient needs, and the effects of excess nutrients on water quality. Residents who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by calling the farm bureau’s office at 800-410-4613.

Gardening event

Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks will host its “Garden Adventure Day” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. This year’s theme is “Dig Into Gardening.” Activities will include a drum circle, mini yoga sessions, a scavenger hunt, planting and naming dahlias and more. The free event takes place rain or shine.
